While it’s hard to know exactly how much energy is being consumed by the thousands of data centers that have cropped up to feed America’s A.I. boom, it’s commonly understood that the industry has been driving a massive increase in electricity demand. Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s fearless leader, pithily summed it up in the company’s 2025 sustainability report: “Electricity is the lifeblood of digital intelligence.
