Norah ODonnell, the veteran broadcaster who has landed recent interviews with M.B.S., President Biden, and Pope Francis, will step down as anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News after this year’s presidential election, she told me on Tuesday. O’Donnell has struck a new, long-term, sinecure-ish deal with the network to focus on major cross-platform interview specials while continuing to contribute to Evening News, 60 Minutes, and other CBS programs. “The way our product is distributed is changing,” O’Donnell told me. “How do we do those big interviews, that great storytelling, and share that in a different kind of way so it can reach a different kind of audience.” Wendy McMahon, the president and C.E.O. of CBS News, told me that the network was focused on “challenging the traditional model” in order to find ways to leverage O’Donnell across more platforms.
