“Old Masters lovers share several traits: curiosity, passion for provenance, love of color and history,” wrote collector Jordan Saunders, who amassed one of the most consequential collections of such paintings in the 20th century along with her late husband, the legendary Morgan Stanley banker and private equity O.G. Thomas Saunders III. “I am in awe of the artists’ techniques, the stories they tell, all the tiny details, and, in some, the hidden symbolism.”
