And now, a little more on the latest Bari–WarnerMount drama…

On Sunday, Anderson Cooper bid farewell to 60 Minutes with an emotional 17-minute
segment that included a subtle critique of the newsmagazine’s direction under owner David Ellison and editorial leader Bari Weiss: “I hope 60 Minutes remains 60 Minutes,” he said. Perhaps Cooper’s decision to leave the program was a clear-enough message, but the line represented the latest installment in a deluge of bad press Bari has endured in her seven months on the job.
Now, as Paramount closes in on its $111 billion acquisition of
Warner Bros. Discovery, Dylan reports that senior leadership has begun informally discussing a narrower mandate for Weiss—one that would give her less control over the TV product at CBS News and, eventually, CNN. Meanwhile, a more experienced, as-yet-unnamed executive would be brought in to manage the business. (A Paramount spokesman disputed this characterization.) The conversations reflect a newfound acceptance that Bari was given too broad a mandate for someone without previous experience in
television—but perhaps it’s a gift of sorts. After all, the next person to inherit her role may have to deal with much worse…
