Nicolas Party, the Switzerland-born, Glasgow-trained painter, has been on a rocket-ship career trajectory since settling in New York. In 2019, Glenn Fuhrman’s FLAG Art Foundation held an exhibition in which Party combined Old Masters paintings with wall murals that were not permanent—“meant to disappear,” as Party put it—and of course not for sale. But his characteristically flat, pastel-colored work had already been attracting market attention, and an extraordinary run at auction soon followed. Within a few short years, he has become a distinctive presence in the international art market.
